Chassis Role: Development Engineer (Tire & Wheels)

 

Responsibilities

Role: Development Engineer Chassis – Tires, Wheels and Assemblies

Responsibilities:

·       Engineering Design & Development of chassis Components (Steel Wheels, Aluminum wheels, Tires, Wheel Bolts, Wheel & Tire Assembly ) for current & new program.

·       Follow Stellantis product development processes. Creating Source package, develop durability and functional objectives for structural components. Supplier readiness evaluation, Technical review, Tool development and time plan review to meet program deliverables for Parts availability, DV, PV tests.

·       Guide CAE team for structural analysis of above Chassis components to meet required fatigue life cycle.

(fatigue load cases, NVH and stiffness analysis)

·       Work closely with SQE and supplier for resolving part development challenges, ensure timely KPIs are met for program quality gates.

·       Understand vehicle/sub system functional objectives, inter dependencies and study the packaging, serviceability and cost implications.

·       Visit to supplier plants for process review, sample preparation, witness T0 and VP samples, testing, ensuring part spec and quality, support vehicle build time plan with cost and timing.

·       Understand material properties, coating process, and process flow, and resolve any assembly build issues by working closely with Stellantis plant and module supplier.

·       Support all engineering test & production builds by working with plant team.

·       Address component, assembly & vehicle Field Early Warranty issues with quality & service team.

·       Working closely with cross functional teams like materials, CAE, testing, product center of competency, service, warranty and supplier quality. Drive value optimization initiative and meet target cost savings.

·       Develop new local suppliers to meet functional targets & cost. Competitive bench marking & innovation projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s/ Master’s  Degree in Engineering  in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering.

Essential skills

 

Essential

  • Minimum 6 years of Tire Design and Development experience with Tire manufacturer or at passenger car manufacturer ( OEM ) .
  • 8 to 10 years of overall experience with automotive OEM or equivalent in Wheels & Tires  and W&T Assemblies Design / Development or any other Chassis specific area.
  • Understand Wheel & Tire testing, development & Homologation requirements. ETRTO/ T&RA/ SAE  design guidelines.
  • In depth experience of product development process, supplier evaluation, tech review, DFMEA, DVP&R, control plan, PFMEA, PPAP.
  • Root cause analysis (Proactive & reactive methods) for parts under development and field return/warranty. Knowledge of DFSS methodology for design and reactive root cause analysis methods. (Shainin, DOE).
  • Experience in Catia V5 modeling (Surface/Assembly).
  • Good understanding of functional science of Chassis subs systems for fatigue, NVH, handling and stiffness. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

·       Vehicle assembly process knowledge and system and component tooling and process experience.

·       Process knowledge of casting, sheet metal and forging.

·       Simulation of manufacturing processes (sheet metal forming, casting-mold fill simulation)

·       Knowledge of various chassis subsystems and Vehicle dynamics.
