VOE – BODY EXTERIOR TRIM

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Body Exterior components Value Optimisation
  • Working with engineering team, VO BCI team, suppliers, vehicle integration, purchasing, quality, finance and other cross-functional teams to generate ideas, study technical and economical feasibility and execute cost reduction proposals.
  • Define the validation plan of each proposal together with engineering and performance dept and share the final report for each test with the whole team.
  • Tracking regional/global results by each subsystem / commodity and controlling the implementation gates and roadblocks. Other responsibilities will include managing supplier (internal/external) development activities, weight and cost reduction opportunities, development, and validation of assigned components.

Task / Deliverables

  • Supported by the Engineering Functions and the VSR, depending on the specific area of application can be responsible:
  • To manage Project deliverables within his/her area.
  • To manage codesign Suppliers Project deliverables within his/her area, supported by the Engineering Functions and the VSR, responsible for Quality convergence process (e.g., APQP grid).
  • To ensure the correct and efficient information flow and reporting during the project development phase to SSTL.
  • To participate to any hand-over phase, if present, and to the definition with Engineering functions for relevant components/systems, technical solutions and corresponding performance, timing and cost targets (using the appropriate systems).
  • To ensure the completeness/availability of all engineering documents necessary for sourcing (Sourcing Packages) on time to support Project deliverables.
  • To ensure the technical feasibility, the design robustness, the component manufacturability and the compliance of technical documentation, through the coordination of engineering (if necessary) and product suppliers.
  • To point out the critical issues or any infringements of Design/Test Standards and identify the actions needed to respect the assigned targets.
  • To manage the design FMEAs execution performing the risk assessment and to provide support during process FMEAs execution.
  • To make available the documentation necessary to implement technical modifications (e.g. ODMs/CCD/CNs/ISSUES & ECR), to request their economic evaluations, to support the VSR during the approval phase and to guarantee the associated drawings release. To monitor, through the accountable departments, their application in production according to the time schedule and procedures provided. 
  • To ensure the completeness/availability of all documents necessary for tooling release (TKO) and software release and validation
  • To ensure the release of the product structure for Mules (and PWB plywood buck if requested) ensuring the Part Delivery
  • To carry out / to ensure the diagnostic activities on the relevant systems/components and to provide engineering support in problem solving activities at the assembly plant (PER/VLO etc.) from pilot phase through launch, when requested.
  • Own technical validation plans for ED (Engineering Design), DV (Design Validation) and PV (Process Validation) testing, ensuring they are completed on time, resolving, and escalating non compliances and providing info to PMO support team.
  • In case of a maintenance model assignment, all the above-mentioned activities will be aimed to manage life cycle upgrades (i.e. MCA, Facelift), cost reductions and quality improvement.

COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

  • Work closely with Engineering, VO BCI, and Vehicle Integration teams to generate, assess, and validate cost reduction ideas.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Supplier Quality for sourcing, APQP deliverables, and supplier alignment.
  • Align with Finance for cost tracking and business case validation.
  • Collaborate with Validation & Performance teams to define and execute ED/DV/PV test plans.
  • Interface with Manufacturing and Plant teams to ensure design feasibility and support during trials/launch.
  • Liaise with PMO for reporting milestones, risks, and implementation progress.
  • Ensure timely release of technical documents in coordination with Configuration Management.

External:

  • Engage with Co-design Suppliers to manage development, DFMEA/PFMEA execution, tooling, and part deliveries.
  • Coordinate with Tooling and Test partners for TKO readiness and validation completion.
  • Monitor and support suppliers in addressing technical issues, cost targets, and quality improvements.
  • Ensure seamless communication and tracking of supplier activities across lifecycle stages.

Performance INDICATORS (INDICATIVE):

To meet Key Design Milestone and Development milestone with Design guidelines, Cost, Quality per given timeline.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.

Essential skills

Experience in Body Exterior systems, including vacuum forming, injection molding and Thermoforming.  Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).  PLM release experience.  Body systems in-plant launch experience.  Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Green Belt/Black Belt, Shainin / Kepner-Tregoe reactive problem solving.  Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Self-starter with strong leadership, communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.

 

Essential:

  • Hands on experience on Exterior trim part design and development.
  • Good experience in exterior part finish requirements, design rules, regulation requirements and packaging with surrounding parts
  • Strong background in plastics part development process
  • Strong Experience in UG NX, CATIA and PLM ENOVIA.
  • Strong background on Exterior part homologation requirement.
  • Plastics processing knowledge, Tooling background is essential.
  • Strong background on Automobile Product life cycle management and Manufacturing knowledge.
  • Good Knowledge in Change Management, Change Notice and ECR
  • Issue resolution and cost management knowledge.
  • Knowledge on Testing and validation plan.
  • Better understanding of the Variants, Complexity management
  • Good Experience in DFMEA, DVP&R.
  • GD&T and tolerance stack-up study
  • Master Section creation and Study
  • Excellent communication and Team player.
  • Should have experience in leading a group.
  • Excellent team management skill and resource planning.
