Overview

DEVELOPMENT LEAD –Underbody

Responsibilities

Objective:

  • To provide technical leadership to a group of release engineers.
  • Responsible for developing part designs and/or systems assuring that design rules are followed, and design practices are implemented, consistently across all components and systems within the organization.
  • Additionally, support the Development Team in assessing and developing the technical know-how of the organization & meet the Deliverables shorter lead time.

BIW Parts:

Front side member , Dash & Cowl assembly floor, Sill inner assembly , RR floor assembly, Bumper beams , Battery tray (12 V)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create Parametric Surface models of Under body components of BIW as per
    • Packaging requirements
    • Design standards
    • Performance criteria
    • Geometrical requirements
    • Manufacturing requirements
  • Create Associative Assembly models
  • DMU check for clash and clearances
  • Responsible for meeting DVP&R and DFMEA by virtual analysis by interacting with necessary CAE teams
  • Take part in periodic design reviews for all the project assigned, update status and concerns
  • Ensure the Design meet all design criteria and mating part criteria from other functional areas, confirm to Regulatory standards, best practices, voice of customer
  • Adhere to TC/PLM system rules and maintain part history
  • Maintain the structure as per EBOM in TC/ PLM system
  • Release parts and assemblies as per Corporate Release Process
  • Work with EBOM Team to maintain structure up to date
  • To assist the PC/PR (development team) to do the technical feasibility, design robustness, component manufacturability and the compliance of technical documentation
  • To ensure the completeness/availability of all documents necessary for tooling release.
  • Participate in Supplier Technical Reviews
  • To interact with the suppliers & plant to understand any issues & ensure the issues are addressed with appropriate feedback without leading to any delay in delivery
  • Escalate with the appropriate time to involve the mangers for the risk mitigation help.
  • Assist PC/PR( Development team) in providing engineering support to problem solving activities at the assembly plant from pilot phase through launch / post launch
  • Support the Change management by design changes and /or incorporating feed backs from Development team
  • Work with PC/PR (Development team) and participate in the diagnostic activities on the relevant systems/components

Task / Deliverables

  • In the area of competence can be responsible for:
  • Support managers to meet the quality, cost and weight efficient designs that ensures successful launch while meeting program objectives.
  • Consolidation of CAD & work with cost estimation to find the proposed platform solution Vs cost impact & vendor tooling investment.
  • Lead standardization, re-use, harmonization, benchmarking, and lessons learned activities in his/her domain, ensuring the application of corporate technical best practices.
  • Support Project Team with his/her technical know-how to: develop technical solutions, root-cause issues.
  • Work along with CAD/ DRE for the system integration & design execution on time to meet the gate way requirements
  • Lead product diversity definition per KPI requirements along with Vehicle Program team, Product planning and Brand and Supplier
  • Responsible for Source Package development.
  • Within his/her responsibilities he/she must guarantee the conformity to Internal Control System rules.

Performance INDICATORS (INDICATIVE):

To meet Key vehicle, launch milestone with Cost, Quality per given timeline.

Qualifications

B.E. / B. Tech. / M. E / M. Tech – Mechanical / Automotive / Electrical engineering.

Essential skills

  • Advanced Surface Modeling /Assembly Modeling using Catia /UG NX-Sheet metals
  • Section study
  • DMU Analysis
  • Teamcenter (TC) / EBOM/PLM
  • Updating of DVPR & DFMEA
  • Vendor Development / SCM
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Issue resolution for process & performance related issues
  • Weight & Cost optimization
  • Sheet metal design aspects.
  • Knowledge in GD&T, Sheet Materials Knowledge
  • Knowledge on Sheet metal welding process
  • Knowledge on Welding fixture design, Gun access study, Painting and sealing process requirement

  • CFT convergence.
  • OEM experience to meet the shorter Lead time.
  • Basic knowledge on Homologation & Regulation compliance
  • Problem solving experience.
  • Team oriented, Agile to switch the proposals with respect to Manager direction & meet the Project stringent time line.

Experience

  Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience with CAD design experience – UG NX / CATIA.
