Overview

We are seeking an experienced Functional Perceived Quality Engineer (FPQE) / Convergence Engineer to support vehicle development programs by driving fit and finish quality targets across interior and exterior systems. The role involves establishing and validating gap and flush requirements, performing vehicle-level convergence analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure world-class perceived quality from concept through production launch.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage vehicle-level gap and flush requirements for interior and exterior components throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Define, maintain, and monitor section books and associated quality KPIs.
  • Perform vehicle section analysis and geometry validation to ensure compliance with perceived quality targets.
  • Validate perceived quality requirements using CAD tools such as CATIA or NX.
  • Lead target-setting workshops with Styling, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
  • Conduct dimensional analysis, tolerance stack-up studies, and convergence assessments.
  • Define and review datum strategies for sheet metal and interior trim systems.
  • Support issue identification, root cause analysis, and escalation management during development and launch phases.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and process capability.
  • Monitor and report program quality metrics and convergence status to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle-level gap and flush requirements.
  • Experience in datum strategy development for body, closure, and interior systems.
  • Proficient in GD&T principles and tolerance stack-up analysis (1D and 3D).
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal and plastic component design/manufacturing considerations.
  • Knowledge of functional tolerancing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with vehicle manufacturing processes, including Body Shop and General Assembly.
  • Experience using CATIA V5 and/or Siemens NX for geometry validation and section analysis.
  • Ability to analyze dimensional variation and support convergence activities through launch.

Essential skills

  • Understanding of statistical analysis, SPC techniques, and process capability studies.
  • Experience with vehicle dimensional management and quality monitoring systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global engineering teams.
